Handy Hints for a great day

Check the tide & Weather

A bit of planning will help make your kayak or paddle experience amazing. Check out the tide to decide which end of the beach or creek to head to.

The onshore sea breeze can whip up a few waves on the main beach in the afternoons, so plan to paddle early in the day for calmer water. If there is a strong breeze along the beach, chances are Theodolite Creek will be sheltered.

At high tide the Theodolite Creek basin fills providing a calm and shallow spot perfect to get your balance paddleboarding or into the swing of kayaking. Best 2 hours either side of high tide. Also great for families, but watch out for midgees from mid afternoon!

At low tide the Creek still offers plenty of paddling fun - check the current which can be strong on an outgoing tide. Even better, plan to explore up the creek when the tide is coming in, and return to start point on the outgoing tide.

FAQ's

Will I get wet?

While the kayaks and paddleboards are very stable and the water is often calm,  these are watersports, chances are you will get wet!  Enjoy the warm water!

Can the kids come with us?

We recommend that children 5 and under go out on a single/standup paddleboard or kayak with an adult or on a double kayak with 2 adults. Children aged 6+ can go out on a double kayak with 1 adult. Children 6+ can use a kids Kayak or paddleboard and all children under the age of 18 must paddle under adult supervision.
